POLICE Officer 2 Ruby Anzenie Rojas-Zarondona, 28, from Midsayap, North Cotabato, was crowned as Ms. Hope International 2016 at the 3rd annual, multi-category international pageant held at V & A Waterfront in Capetown, South Africa last Saturday.
Ruby won over contestants from all over the world including her runners-up from Australia and Namibia. Ruby was one of the grand winners in different categories, the others being: Miss Teen Hope International Kaitlyn Bauer of South Africa, Miss Hope International Natalie Memory of Zimbabwe, Mr. Hope International Leo Sera Twain of Botswana, Ms. Hope Elite Cheryl Wagner of Australia.
Based in Capetown South Africa, Hope Journey International is a pageant system where 50 % of the judging is based on community projects and interviews. Ruby, who was very happy and proud to have represented the Philippines with flying colors, also won awards for Best Interview, Best in Community Service, Miss Wella Hair and Miss Stunning Shoes.
A licensed teacher (she obtained her Education degree from Southern Christian College in Midsayap in 2008), Ruby did odd jobs including selling mobile phones at a mall when she failed to get an item from DECS. Ruby eventually entered the police force after finishing her training at the academy and married PO1 Melvin Zarondona in 2013.
Rubs was initially assigned at Lupon Municipal Police Station in Davao Oriental. For now, she serves as focal person for Performance Governance System (PGS), a group that assesses the performance of every police station in the region. She got her international pageant assignment from Queens of the Beautiful Planet pageant director Karen Sabarre who handpicked her for the tilt. She joined the Mrs. Category of Queens of the Beautiful Planet Philippines Pageant earlier this year. Ruby is no newbie in beauty pageants. As early as 14, she has been joining local pageants winning as Bb. Midsayap (2006), Hiyas ng Kagandahan (2005) and Mutya ng Libungan (2007).

THE winning streak of Binibining Pilipinas beauties in international pageants continues as Bb. Pilipinas-Globe 2016 Nichole Marie Ramos Manalo was named as Miss Globe 2016 3rd runner-up in a simple coronation ceremony in Tirana, Albania Sunday night through Facebook live stream of the Miss Canada Globe Productions account, two days after the finals last Friday.
Nichole, the youngest sister of Miss Universe Philippines 2009 and actress Bianca Manalo and Bb. Pilipinas-World 2002 Kate Manalo-Hernandez, was given a crown and certificate by the Miss Globe head and Miss Canada Globe Productions owner Mias Santa Ana Pilar.
The fourth runner-up was also awarded to Natasha Joubert of South Africa who has already flown back to her country after the finals last Friday night.
India's Dimple Patel was crowned Miss Globe 2016 by the Philippines’ Ann Colis, last year’s winner, while Colombia's Yenny Carillo and Albania's Kristina Skurra were named first runner-up and second runner-up, respectively, in the coronation night held at 25 Expo City, Tirana, Albania on Friday, November 25, 2016 (Saturday morning PH time).
Manalo was originally named as a top ten finalist and winner of the Dream Girl of the World special award. She also placed second runner-up in a subsidiary swimsuit competition before the finals.
The reason given why the remaining runners-up were not announced last Friday was that the host had forgotten to bring the envelopes containing the names of the third and fourth runners-up on stage during the live show.
The president of Miss Globe also explained about the new rule in the pageant's age requirement as Miss India Dimple Patel is already 29 years old; the previous rule stated that the age limit is 26 year old.
Nichole, a registered nurse, said on Instagram before the finals: “There is this fire within me still wanting to save other people’s lives, but this time, as a beauty queen who has the heart to inspire. Yes, I am a public servant. I am a nurse. And ever since, it’s my passion to give my time and service to others, especially to those who are sick. Because I know in that way, I am a blessing to other people. For me, that’s living life to the fullest.”
Nichole is the fourth Bb. Pilipinas titleholder this year to successfully compete internationally. The others are: Jennifer Hammond who was a top 15 semi-finalist in Miss Intercontinental in Colombo, Sri Lanka last October 16; Nicole Cordoves, who emerged as 1st runner-up in Miss Grand International in Las Vegas, Nevada last October 25; and Kylie Verzosa who nailed the country’s sixth Miss International crown in Tokyo last October 27.
