VIVA Communications Inc., headed by its founder and CEO Vicente “Vic” del Rosario Jr. announced last Tuesday its partnership with Cory Quirino Global Quest (CQGQ), the organization headed by socialite, wellness guru and philanthropist Cory Quirino that stages the annual search for the Philippines’ delegate to Miss World.
In a press conference held at the Viva Communications offices at Tektite Tower in Pasig City, Del Rosario and Quirino happily announced the new partnership that they hope will propel the beauty pageant to new heights, especially the winners during and after their reigns.
Now on its sixth year, Miss World Philippines has successfully produced the first Filipina Miss World in 2013 when Megan Young bested 126 contestants worldwide at the 63rd pageant held in Bali, Indonesia.

Aside from Megan, CQGQ prides itself in its roster of Miss World alumni: Gwendoline Ruais, Miss World 2011 1st runner-up; Queenirich Rehman, Miss World 2012 top 8 and Miss Talent 1st runner-up; Valerie Weigmann, Miss World 2014 top 25; and Hillarie Parungao, Miss World 2015 top 6 and Social Media winner.
“We have finally captured the Miss World crown, thanks to Megan Young, but we are also aiming to win the essence of Miss World which is “Beauty with a Purpose”, Ms. Quirino said. “Beauty with a Purpose” is that part of the Miss World competition where the delegates foray their advocacy to help the underprivileged in their countries.
“We at Viva Communications are very happy for this new partnership with Miss World Philippines. We also stage other pageants like Miss Manila and Mutya ng Pilipinas but these are local contests. Miss World is the longest-running global competition,” Del Rosario said.
According to Del Rosario, Viva is looking forward to tap the potentials of Miss World Philippines beauties in acting, singing, or modeling not unlike WME/IMG, the talent management outfit in the US that has bought the Miss Universe Pageant from Donald Trump last year.
Also present during the event were the Miss World Philippines 2015 winners namely: Miss World Philippines Hillarie Parungao, 1st Princess Cassandra Naidas, 2nd Princess Mia Howell and 3rd Princess Vanessa Wright.
Miss World 2016 will be held in August or September “depending on when the Miss World 2016 finals will be held” according to Ms. Quirino. “And we will know that in the next few days.”

New housemate for Pia Wurtzbach in New York

New housemate for Pia Wurtzbach in New York

After Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach bid an emotional farewell to her housemate Miss USA 2015 and Miss Universe 2015 2nd runner-up Olivia Jordan before the 65th Miss USA finals yesterday morning (PH time), Pia will now be sharing her luxury apartment in New York City with newly-crowned Miss USA Deshauna Barber of the District of Columbia.
Nicknamed So, Barber is a 26-year-old Army Reserve Officer with the rank of First Lieutenant. Her dad is a retired army master sergeant. Born in Columbus, Georgia, she has lived all over the USA. She has resided in North Carolina, Nebraska, Minnesota and Virginia before finally landing in D.C.
So has been in the military since 2011 when she was commissioned as a quartermaster officer following her graduation from Virginia State University with a degree in Business Management. She is now a logistics commander for the 988th Quartermaster Detachment Unit at Fort Meade, Maryland.
The new Miss USA’s goal is to help soldiers battling post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). "It's so important, I know that when veterans and soldiers return from being deployed, sometimes they have those hidden scars that aren't necessarily physical," Barber said in an interview with Fox 5 D.C. "And I think it's important to make sure that they have the resources they need to get through PTSD, to get through those mental battles."
Barber is only the third Miss USA winner from the District of Columbia, and the first-ever military service member to take home the coveted crown. "I am ready to break the stereotype for female soldiers and bust through the pageantry glass ceiling that has been laid over the heads of this industry," she wrote on Instagram before the competition. "Time to show that we as women are versatile, strong and can be anything we set our minds to!"
Barber will compete at the 65th Miss Universe Pageant along with Miss Universe Philippines 2016 Maxine Perez Medina and 90 other national beauty queens later this year, where Wurtzbach will crown her successor
